Consumers Power Awards Grants
Your Change Makes a Difference
In 2007, the Consumers Power Charitable Trust gave $20,629
thanks to the helping hand given by CPI members and employees
who give to the Trust through Operation Round Up.
Since 1993, when the program was started at CPI, $198,042
has been given to non-profit organizations serving needs in
CPI's service area and to individuals.
2007 Charitable Trust recipients:
- Two families used funds to help with rental assistance
and fuel for winter heating.
- Alpine Community Center bought directional road signs
to the center
- Alsea Community Effort will print brochures to promote
their community
- Alsea Valley Gleaners for food purchases
- Benton County Historical Museum for lighting shields to
protect archives
- Benton Furniture Share for expanded phone and fax lines
to meet increased requests from clients and donors
- Boy Scout Eagle Troop to purchase a cardiac defibrillator
to place in a Philomath public school
- Center Against Rape and Domestic Violence for one year
copy machine lease payment
- City of Detroit toward cost of generator that will provide
community shelter in emergencies
- Coastal Range Food Bank for food purchases
- Green Acres Elementary Parent Teacher Club to buy books
for Read at Home program
- Heartland Humane Society for purchase of emergency preparedness
equipment used in animal rescue, evacuation and shelter
- Kairos Consumer Council for prizes, speakers and field
trips
- Lebanon Soup Kitchen for food purchases
- Lincoln County Sheriffs Mounted Posse to purchase new
portable radios used in search and rescue
- Linn Benton Food Share for gas vouchers to offset fuel
costs for volunteer food bank drivers
- Lunch with Santa for a holiday party and gifts for low-income
youth
- Lyle Elementary School to install an irrigation system
for an outdoor science classroom
- Marine Corps Family Foundation to purchase and ship holiday
boxes to Marines in war zones
- Old Mill Center for equipment to reduce child abuse in
high risk families
- Samaritan Village Bus Fund to help purchase a bus trailer
to carry groceries, walkers for resident outings
- Scio Girls and Boys Club for supplies and field trips
for after school program
- Scio Middle School toward week-long school trip to Washington
D.C.
- South Benton Senior Nutrition Program to help provide
meals
- Quilts from Caring Hands to purchase table clamps used
for quilt tying
- Valley Aids Information Network to buy brochures and a
display board for public outreach
- Vina Moses for holiday food boxes
Last year the Trust gave $18,226 to individuals and nonprofit
organizations in CPIs service area. Funds for the Trust
come from CPI members who voluntarily round up their monthly
electric bill.
Non-profit organizations in Linn, Benton, Lincoln, Polk,
Marion and Lane counties that would provide services to CPI
members can apply for grants from the Charitable Trust. Individuals
or families who are CPI members and need emergency financial
assistance also may apply.
